You will often hear in the news about the 99 weeks of unemployment extension benefits. While this is indeed the case in “most” states, some states offer fewer weeks of benefits.
The number of weeks available in your state depends on the jobless rate in your state. In addition, not all states offer Extended Benefits (“EB”), which kick in after your regular benefits, and Emergency Unemployment Compensation (“EUC”) expire.

I have been out of work for year and half ,after being with one company for 32 years I am now 64 years old and cant find work,they want younger people
I was on my last 20 weeks the 99′s and received my claim form for only one week,its said you have $6,300 available however its been cancelled and you will receive no more checks ,in other words cut off.

Do any of you realize where this unemployment benefit money comes from? Every business puts money into a Fed and State unemployment fund. Because of the extensions, now KY is increasing the amount due from businesses every year from now till 2022. This will end up being a 50% increase unless they change it. As of now, the Fed fund is the same. I guess they just expect the states (really the employers) to cover it. Gosh, I hope this doesn’t cause more people to be laid off because of more expense!! Just a vicious circle! It is not a perfect world, and there isn’t always a perfect solution. One thing is for certain, no government can just keep sending money out of these funds without helping conditions better for companies to be able to grow and employ more.
washington needs to step up and protect the american people. without unemplyoment,crime is going up people caint feed their family,who will pay for prisons not the tax payers cause theirs no jobs, somebody needs to do something now, i have beenout of work for 18months no jobs, washington can say what they want but their are no jobs the truth is unemplyoment is running out say what you want but the american people know better so do something about it now.

I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I currently started back to school seeking a degree in Computer Science. I am on Unemployment because the job market for vets is not as good as people think. I have 2 kids and a wife, bills, a mortgage, AND i go to school full-time. I agree that people on welfare and unemployment SHOULD BE TESTED for illegal drugs, and monitored for drinking too much. I am using this money for day to day life, and it is actually helping me out. I do not feel ashamed that I am on unemployment compensation because my family needs it. All you others (you know who you are) who are on it because you are LAZY need to be shipped overseas so you can at least be a sponge for the troops that dont get to sit on their ass all day.
I live in Mississippi and we only get 79 weeks of unemployment. If it is true that the amout of weeks of unemployment is based on the total number unemployed in your state, then we have won the prize. Mississippi has made it to the wonderfull standing as tied in third place for the most unemployed. So it is not true that you get 99 weeks based on unemployment in your state. Thank you for cutting me off at 79 weeks right here at Christmas. I hope all the powers that be have a wonderfull holiday.
Congress should check people on welfare to check them for drugs and spending in casinos getting cash for there food charge cards, lets get for real, people on or off unemployment do not spend that way they apply it to food, bills, taking care there kids or homes if they have them left forward this to congress and President ask them to answer this question. How about people not paying taxes Millions plus why not drug test them and so on.

we do need more unemployment money. other states are getting more money and all states should be same. i heard that some states are getting over 2 years of unemployment. and some places willn’t take older people for employment.
I feel the same. My 99 wks ran out in May and I’m struggling. Can’t find work and I wonder if it’s due to my age. I’m loosing my home and mind and my depression is worse than ever.
so i started collecting unemployment is early august are you telling me i live in illinois and am eligible to collect for 99 weeks all together i am having a really hard time finding another job cause i can only work days while my kids are at school
if someone in nj was laid off in feb 2010, why are benefits running out now after 73 weeks or so? NJ has been at 9% + for almost 2 years now. Confused.
I live in NY and they did not let us collect even 99 weeks because we were at 8.3%, its that way because the formula they use is, how many on UI at 1/1/2011 (9.3%) and how many on now. The reason why it dropped to 8.3% is because the 1% missing now are the ones that there UI exausted, and people are burning up saving and credit cards. The unemoloyement rate here is more like 16%

My state only has a total of 83 weeks and I don’t see why it wouldn’t be the same all over. All states should have the same.
I was laid off 09/30/2009 during Corporate Down-sizing of approx. 1500 of us here in SE Arizona.
I did not apply for Unemployment until January 2010, as I hoped it would extend my unemployment benefits after I exhausted my Severance from 14yrs with company.
I had collected until 07/16/2011, my last check, apparently at Tier 4 with $4800 left to Tier approximately 20+weeks left to collect until 99-wk cut-off.
I have been informed Arizona did not vote to Pass Extended Benefits, as we were labeled not needy enough. I was cut off after 79 weeks; I have not had any income since.
As cuts go- Elderly, Single, No Dependents & ‘White’ – I am not eligible for any assistance or emergency help. I have applied to so many jobs and joined so many jobber sites for jobs, all for naught! Over-qualified or not current enough. Unemployment numbers do not drop due to gainful employ, but due to being swept aside like discarded trash! I do not want a hand out I require a hand up & the monies I also paid from working for over 5 decades!
I have contacted my Congresswoman, two State Representatives and still AZ remains zapped off the 99 Week allotment – I Need these 20 weeks!
ask them what the formula they use for % of people on UI. Do not let them tell you it is complicated it is simple , how many people were on UI and as you me and others that have exausted there UI so it LOOKS like we went back to work and the % of uemployed drops giving untrue numbers.

I worked for 40 years of my 55 years. The last 25 years I worked as an L.P.N. I am a displaced worker from the State of Oregon. I cared for others all my life; now, America should care for me and about me. At 55, it’s damn hard to get a job with back from lifting too many 300 pound people by yourself in nursing homes. I didn’t have to lift anyone for the State of Oregon. We had a no lift policy. Help me, President Obama. I am a 99er, who’s awaiting her State retirement to live on, when it gets here. In the meantime, I have to beg, borrow and beg some more to stay alive. Open some death centers at least as I have no hope left!
I am tired of people trying to tell us that we are lazy and looking for hand outs. I am disabled and have been denied SS. I am not lazy I am trying to find a job that I can do and nobody seems to want someone that can’t lift over 50 lbs and can not sit for more than 1 hour. So tell me am I to blame?

Tennessee… My husband is 60 has worked for over 45 years.. been on unemployment for the last 2 years.. now it ran out… they say they dont go back on the monies paid in to unemployment past you last job. so where is all this money that has been paid, my husband’s dad paid and his dad paid but neither ever lived to collect the unemployment. so over the past 50 Years when the our parents and grandparents worked, what the heck happened to this money the companies paid in, because they were to proud to ever take any compensation.. somebody tell me what happened to this money..

today is june 2nd 2011. I have been unemployed for over two years , i have used up all my benefits. I have took demeaning jobs , but they were only temporary,thru temp srv. $8hr at that. I have always worked , I have many skills, My job at Dana Corp. was sent to mexico, to my releif, they tried to geyt the buisness running there , but the mexicans could not do the job properly, they apparently tryed to take too many short cuts, as thery have their whole lives, the job i am speaking of is foundry work, I made cylinder liners for engine, from weedeaters to semi trucks. I have experience in machining, cable tv,roofing,siding, etc. but looking around the country, all i see is illegals, people who hire this people should be put in jail, “FACT” IF YOU COMMIT A CRIME , YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE ANY MONEY WHILE COMMTTING THIS CRIME, WELL ENTERING AMERICA ILLEGALY IS A CRIME,AND THEY ARE BEING REWARDED FOR THEIR CRIMINAL ACT. EVEN THE POLITICIANS ARE USING ILLEGALS FOR WORK ON THE HOUSES AND IN THEIR GARDEN ETC. Tony, FL has 99weeks of benefits and “5″ Tiers, call unemployment or go online and sign-up for ‘extended benefits.’ That’s crazy!! They’re “Gov’t” employees, they don’t care…
i just received a letter stating that i would be eligiblefor fourth tier. i didnt even know i had gone thur 2 & 3. they are not very informative and it is very confusing trying to figure it all out. no body seems to know anything and it is just NOT right to play with peoples lively hoods. this is America, America, remember the American dream??? their are so many people who stand to loose EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! if unemployment checks are cut off, ther goes the economy! there will be so many more foreclosures, crime, possible even suicides. you just dont know how desperet people are! something needs to turn around and help the people of this nation. my husband has been unemployed since nov 09, no luck finding anything comparable to his past wagws and no ins offered. i alone take $1545.00 worth of meds and do not qualify for disability. he has NEVER had a problem finding a job. he has had bouts of depression and anxiety. we are behind on mortage which we have lived her for 26yrs. 99 weeks in tennessee is a lie…as of the 16th of april=no more tier 4 for anyone…i was cut off with a 2 day notice….ill tell you what will go up=crime rate because i have a 2 and 3 year olds,,,,if its not bolted down,,,im stealing it…they say the unemployment rate dropped= where are the jobs….all i see are illegals being picked up from every corner, stealing our jobs…Thank you USA…

Teir 4 has never been impacted. The 20 week EB (Extended Benefits) was. It was restored about a week later.

We are desperate right now knowing that we are waiting for an answer about our benefit too contiune or will it? This extension will help us keep our head up an keep a roof over heads until the job market is back on track. does anyone know where the jobs are? i’ve been unemployed in california for over 9 months. I hear the news that the unemployment rate is going down, but i don’t see it hear. We’re still at 12% . I just hope that the california unemployment extensions don’t go away before i find a job.
OK – what did you do before you were tossed out of work? Have a significant portion of these jobs been outsourced (more than about 10%)? If so and if you can find work in other fields, perhaps in North Dakota, South Dakota or Nebraska (these states have the lowest unemployment rates and were said to have not been affected by the 2008 Depression). If not, create your own job. Because the cavalry is not riding to the rescue from business or government (at any level).
